Local Philanthropists, Volunteers to Be Honored

Lansing, MI – The 2017 National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon will take place on November 9, 2017 at 11:45 am at the University Club and is part of National Philanthropy Day®, celebrated by over 125 AFP chapters across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Local Nominees will be the honored at the Awards Luncheon, sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Capital Area Chapter (CAC).
AFP - CAC’s National Philanthropy Day (NPD) awards program recognizes outstanding achievements by individual, foundation and corporate philanthropists, fundraising volunteers and professional fundraisers. These awards recognize those individuals and organizations whose lifetime or long-term achievements have made a significant impact upon society.
The following individuals will be honored at the 2017 National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon:
The Award for Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year -

The Award for Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist of the Year - Delta Dental
The Capital Area Chapter Award for Excellence in Fundraising -

2018 AFP-CAC Foundation Chamberlin Scholarship Awards -

Michigan Children's Trust Fund
“National Philanthropy Day® is the day we recognize and pay tribute to the contributions that philanthropy -- and philanthropists -- have made to our great city and our nation," noted Denise Keiser, President of the AFP-CAC. “With the federal government downsizing, charities have to rely more and more on individual contributions. Our honorees have made the commitment to support philanthropy in the tri-county area and keep the spirit of civic betterment alive and strong. We are grateful to have them here."

During November 2017 and in honor of National Philanthropy Day, the Association of Fundraising Professionals' Capital Area Chapter (AFP- CAC) would like to recognize outstanding achievements by local individuals, corporations and organizations. We want you to be there! The Capital Area Chapter will present FIVE local awards this year, plus ONE scholarship:
* The Award for Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year
* The Award for Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist of the Year
* The Capital Area Chapter Award for Excellence in Fundraising
* 2018 AFP-CAC Foundation Chamberlin Scholarship Award
In addition to networking and a delicious luncheon on Thursday, November 9, 2017, we will honor a robust slate of award recipients and our Chamberlin Scholarship winner. BUT - - we need your help to do so!

2016 Philanthropist of the Year Award
Individual Philanthropist of the Year – John C. Brewster DDS
Dr. John C. Brewster has been involved in Nyaka as a member of their Advisory Board as well as their One by One Planning Committee for several years. In addition to his work in the US to support Nyaka, Dr. Brewster has personally visited their project sites in Uganda, multiple times, to administer dental care to a community of over 250,000, none of which ever received dental care before. Dr. Brewster has recruited colleagues from across the United States to join him on these mission trips to Uganda and has played a key role in turning these volunteers into committed donors.
2016 Corporate Philanthropist of the Year Award
Corporate Philanthropist of the Year – Emergent BioSolutions
Emergent BioSolutions has financially supported Red Cross at a major gift level for many years. Their support enables Red Cross to fulfill its mission in disaster relief, primarily responding to victims of home fires in the Greater Lansing area. They have not only provided financial support but have given time, energy, offered leadership to the organization and have actively participated in service delivery in every arena from Blood Services to Disaster Relief at Red Cross.
